Hello,
I was offered a job in which the agency was to send me a pretranslated file if I was not working in Trados.
I have given up on Trados as a result of a long series of disappointments. I am using Wordfast.
What does that mean, "pretranslated file" and how would I use it in Wordfast. I am using 2.4.1 but kind of new to it.
I had to decline the file due to other work, but want to prepare for the next offer.
Incidentally I did a search in the forum and found many discussions of "pretranslated file" but not what it actually it.
Thanks so much.
Regards,
Jesse

Unclean file Mar 11, 2011

Hi Jessie,

When I've had this it normally means they put the file through Trados and send you the unclean file with those bits which are in the memory already inserted, so it's just like working with an unclean file with bits already filled in. Not a problem at all. Just make sure you agree in advance what they're actually prepared tp pay for and on what basis.

Best wishes,

Claire

Thanks Claire,
I notice 50 people looked at my post but you are the only one who replied and I appreciate it.
So this means it will appear as a "fill in the blanks" piece of work.

Yes - pretranslation means that whatever is in the TM will be displayed, and that you job is to care for the parts still in the source language.

Not exactly 'blanks', but... Mar 12, 2011

true - you will be translating as usual.

This is my experience:
The client pretranslates the file to prepare it for Wordfast.
When you open this file in Wordfast, you will, however, see that all target segments are filled in with the source text, so you will have to write over this text/delete it.
