How to get numbers to update automatically in fuzzy matches

In strong matches WF is automatically updating numbers in line with the source, but in weaker matches it isn't - and I can't find how to change this setting - help!

Silly example:

Text to translate: The red cat was 10
Text in TM: The blue cat was 11
WF suggests: The blue cat was 11
I want: The blue cat was 10

Just a thought Oct 28, 2011

This might not apply in your case, but I thought I'd suggest it just in case: is the number in question next to some sort of punctuation, like a bracket or a colon or units (e.g. mm without a space). If it is, WF treats the whole thing as a placeable rather than a number and won't automatically propagate the number. That's my experience anyway. I can't think of any other reason off the top of my head, I'm afraid.

All the best,

Claire

Thanks again Claire. On further investigation I can see that the problem is not fuzziness but *decimals*.

It can do straight numbers (the red cat was 10) but not the red cat was 10,6

Text to translate: The red cat was 10,6
Text in TM: The blue cat was 11.1
WF suggests: The blue cat was 11.1
I want: The blue cat was 10.6

Is there a setting I can set?

Yes, but... Oct 28, 2011

I had to experiment for ages to get this right. You used to be able to do it via Find/replace in Pandora's box, but there is a separate Find/replace under the Terminology tab now, which contains default Eng>French changes. I've currently got these set as:

([0-9]),([0-9]) \1.\2 FR to EN financial format converter, step 2 /wc
([0-9]),([0-9][0-9][0-9]) \1.\2 /wc
,([0-9][0-9]) .\1 Fr to EN financial format converter, step 1 /wc

You can edit them via the edit box at the bottom of that tab, then make sure they're checked. Then, under the Setup tab, make sure that QA during translation is checked and Run the Find/replace list on translations.

I think that's all! It took me ages to tweak it when I first switched to Wordfast 6, but it seems to work most of the time now - as I said, some units confuse it, but otherwise it works well.

Good luck!

Thanks again Claire Nov 14, 2011

I tried it and it didn't work... but I will persevere when I get some time!

Sorry about the late reply but we have been on holiday!
