Creating valid Wordfast TM with Olifant

My client (a larger translation agency) has sent me a TMX file created with Trados along with a .doc file for translation.
I was planning to use Olifant (which I've never used before) to convert the TMX into something compatible with our CAT tool of choice, Wordfast.

So far I have...

1. opened the TMX file (from the client) in Olifant. (I did check the box: "Check for invalid xml characters")
2. saved the file as a Wordfast TM file (txt)
3. opened the DOC file in wordfast for translation
4. created a new TM from the newly created Wordfast TM file and loaded it for this translation
5. selected "translate all" so that the TM could propagate throughout the txml in pre translation

Where did I go wrong?
Not one segment got picked up from the TM.
I know for a fact that there are plenty of 100 % matches based on the segments I can see when loading the file in Olifant.
