Version 6.03o (or later) of Wordfast is required. iTranslate4.eu is an online-based machine translation service that has its own API (like Google Translate and Microsoft Translator). It gives you access to MT service providers such as SYSTRAN, ProMT and many others. Usage of the service costs 7 euros per 1 million characters, but you can get 10,000 characters for free.

MT Dropdown Menu on Mac Apr 23, 2012

Hello, Dominique,

Thank you so much for your publishing this and all the other videos.

I have downloaded the latest beta version of WFC (wf603o). However, the drop-down menu does not seem to work. I can see the three fields below each other, saying "Select provider", but no list appears in any of them in order to select providers.

I work with MS Word for Mac 2011, V. 14.1.4

Is there anything I am unaware of? Thanks for your assistance.

I hadn't tried 6.03o & iTranslate4eu on Mac yet, but I just installed the latest 6.03o on my MacBook Air and I do get the list, as you can see here:

Just in case you haven't noticed, an update to Office 2011 recently came out. The latest version is now 14.2.0. I don't think it is the cause of your problem, but I'd advise you to install the update. At least in my case it made Word 2011 much more stable when used with Wordfast.

What you could try is delete wordfast.ini. Yves said something on the beta list about 6.03n/6.03o not having a "migration path" from older versions.

I'll test whether MT (including the new support for iTranslate4eu) works with 6.03o on Mac. One interesting novelty is that Wordfast should now support three MT sources on Mac, just like on Windows. It used to be just one MT on Mac, then it was increased to two with the "revamped" AC in version 6.03j (see http://youtu.be/r753u8G69qc ) and it should now be three with 6.03o.

Empty MT providers list when installing from scratch Apr 23, 2012

I was able to reproduce your problem (though inintentionally): after I deleted my .ini, I had no MT providers listed in the dropdown menus of the MT tab. In other words, WFC 6.03o was not able to populate that list when installed from scratch on a new system, it can only inherit these settings from a previously installed version. Remember this is beta stuff, so these kind of things can be expected. I reported the problem on the beta list.

MT menu not working in earlier versions Apr 23, 2012

I work on MacBookPro, Mac OS X, V. 10.6.8. I can see that Office 14.2.0 is available now and I do need a more stable Word, too. However, when I run "Software Update", it claims that everything is up-to-date... How should I proceed?

I have not deleted it because of your next message. Actually, I could not use MT in earlier versions either as the drop-down menu did not populate. It started in wf603m version. In wf601g version, if I activate Web-based MT Google, I get the "Runtime error '429' message (there is no field to input API key).

Which WFC version should I use in order to be able to benefit from the MT function? Thank you very much.

Updates from Word's own Help menu option Apr 23, 2012

You need to fetch the update via Word's own Help menu option.

MT won't work at all in 6.01g. On a Mac, you would need 6.03j or newer for optimal results. Here is what I got with 6.03o SE (second edition): http://youtu.be/i0fumo7b_lM?hd=1

I was able to get the dropdown menus to repopulate by installing 6.01g, 6.03j and 6.03o, in the order. You could try to copy the following lines into your wordfast.ini (open it in Textedit) manually:

MTAccessKey= 1110111
WebMT1=1Google;https://www.googleapis.com/language/translate/v2?key={YOUR-KEY-HERE}&q={ss}&source={sl}&target={tl} [your_Google_key_here]
WebMT2=2Microsoft;https://api.microsofttranslator.com/v2/Http.svc/Translate?&appId={YOUR-KEY-HERE}&from={sl}&to={tl}&text={ss} [your_Microsoft_key_here]
WebMT3=0WorldLingo;https://www.worldlingo.com/api?wl_data={ss}&wl_srclang={sl}&wl_trglang={tl}&wl_password=
WebMT4=0MyMemory;http://mymemory.translated.net/api/get?q={ss}!&langpair={sl}|{tl}&of=json
WebMT5=3iTranslate4.eu;http://itranslate4.eu/api/Translate?auth={YOUR-KEY-HERE}&app=WFC&min=2&max=2&src={sl}&trg={tl}&dat={ss}[your_iTranslate4eu_key_here]

This is taken from my own wordfast.ini. You should leave {YOUR-KEY-HERE} as such, but replace [your_Google_key_here], [your_Microsoft_key_here] and [your_iTranslate4eu_key_here]
with your actual keys, if available. You can get an iTranslate4eu key for free, and it will be good for 10,000 characters.
