Hello,
For some time I have been getting scrambled Polish characters from GT in WF Classic:
"ż" instead of "ż"
"Å„" instead of "ń"
"Å›" instead of "ć"
"Å" instead of "ł"
etc.
I have returned to the version I thought didn't spoil Polish characters, still it's the same.
The version I am using now is 6.03x.
I use Office 2003 and Win 7 home premium.
It does not happen when I use WF Pro.
Why does it happen with WF Classic?
Regards,
Krzysztof

Why does it happen with WF Ca?

It seems that WFC fails to decode GT strings (in UTF-8) correctly. I think, you’d better report it in the WFC Yahoo! mail list to draw Yves’ attention.

Sample source segment Jul 9, 2012

I assume you translate from EN into PL. Can you provide a sample EN segment in which this problem occurs? I tried with two different setups and couldn't replicate your problem:

Word 2010 + Wf 6.03t: http://screencast.com/t/xUoAF2N0
Word 2003 + Wf 6.04a: http://screencast.com/t/1LuMRopc

I can see several Polish characters with diachritics in the above screenshots, which I assume are correct.

Is your problem only with Google Translate, or also with other MT providers. As you can see, I also used Microsoft Translator and Worldlingo, neither of which seemed to have problems.

This is from GT
But why should you sell more to your customer than he or she is asking for?
Ale dlaczego należy sprzedać więcej do klienta niż on lub ona prosi?
MyMemory - looks ok
Ale dlaczego należy sprzedać więcej do klienta niż on lub ona prosi?
WorldLingo (always has been like this)
Ale dlaczego warto sprzedawać więcej do twojego klienta niż on prosi?
I can't provide you any ouput from Microsoft as I don't have a key for their service.

Normally I use only GT.

another sample EN to PL Jul 9, 2012

Hello Dominique,
This is an example of a correct segment:
We have prepared a training session for you in support of direct reception:
Przygotowaliśmy sesję treningową dla Ciebie w celu wsparcia bezpośredniego odbioru:
This is form GT
Yet the characters are out of the problem character range.
The problem is with some Polish characters.
Kris

Here is what I get with Word 2003 and Wf 6.04a (GT = Google Translate, MS = Microsoft Translator, WL = Worldlingo):

WFC%206.04a,%20MT,%20EN-PL.png

Try upgrading to 6.04a (which is the latest beta as of today) if you wish to use a beta version.

You can get the necessary credentials for Microsoft Translator as explained here:

http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2012/05/01/new-microsoft-translator-api-with-client-id-and-client-secret/

No idea how good Microsoft Translator is for EN > PL, but it tends to be close to Google Translate in my language pairs. Since it's free in practice and doesn't really slow you down, I'd advise you to run it side-by-side with GT.

The encoding issue seems to be specific to your setup. I run a non-localized (English) copy of Windows 7 Pro (64-bit).

the issue is resolved Jul 10, 2012

Hello,
I returned to the last stable release (6.03t) and there is no problem with GT.
Which means that all subsequent releases scramble Polish characters returned by GT.
Regards,
Krzysztof
