Is it possible to do a word count for the target text only for a .txml file in Wordfast 3?
Could someone please tell me how to do this? Thank you.

Dear Scott,

You can press Alt+W or click the toolbar button "Preview in MS Word". This will open the target document in MS Word and you can know the word count of the target text using the MS Word feature.

HTH,
Yasmin

Yes -- that should work great Aug 3, 2012

For some reason that feature had escaped me. Thanks so much for reminding me, Yasmin! That should work great.

Careful! Feb 10, 2013

By doing so, Word will consider the tags {Ut1} as words... You might want to use the Find/replace function to remove all the tagsicon_smile.gif

Good point! Aug 2, 2013

Thanks for bringing that up. I just used the find and replace and that works great. You also need to remember to delete the column with the numbers in the .txml preview.

Replace with spaces Aug 3, 2013

You also need to make sure you replace the tags with spaces. because sometimes a tag is between two words (for example a tab with no spaces) and if you eliminate the tag two words become one

For some file types, you can just go to "File" menu > "Properties" to find the option "Wordcount".

Otherwise, you can use the "Analyze" feature. You can use the Toolbar Button "Analyze" for analyzing the currently open file against the currently selected TM(s).

Moreover, you can use the PM Perspective "Analyze" function, especially for multiple files:

- Go to PM Perspective by clicking the last button on the left bar.
- Under "Analysis" tab, click "Add files" button.
- Select the folder where the files are saved.
- Make sure you select the proper filter; click OK.
- Select the whole folder, or expand it to select specific files and/or sub-folders.
- Select the TM.
- You can also select the option “Pre-translate" and set the percentage. Note: In TXML files, pre-translation overwrites any existing translations in TXML files if they have different matches in the TM, but does not remove translated segments that have no matches in the TM.
- Click "Analyze", and wait until the report appears; click OK to close it.
- If the files are not TXML files, this will generate TXML files for the source documents.
- Go Back to TXLM Editor Perspective.
- Go to the "File" menu and click "Open File" to load the file(s) whose extension is TXML.
- Translate as usual.

Kind regards,
Yasmin
