Hi All,

I have finally decided to switch to Studio from Wordfast but my problem is that all my TMs are in txt format.

I had a look on the internet in ordet to know how to convert a Wordfast TM (txt) for Studio 2011, so I will be able to import it in Studio but I didn't find any useful instructions and I would need to do this conversion in order to start using Studio.

Do you know how to convert Wordfast TMs? Did any of you convert them?

If you have any useful information or tips, please let me know!

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Wish you all a nice day from Windy Welly!
Barbara

TMX Aug 30, 2012

Dear Barbara,

To export a Translation Memory from WFP:

- Go to Translation Memory (menu) > New/Select TM
- Click on Export (button)
- Form the *Local TM* dropdown menu, select the TM you want to export.
- From the dropdown menu *Export Type*, select *TMX Format*
- Browse to select the preferred location and name.

For the process on the SDL Trados Studio side, please refer to:

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Yasmin

You didn't mention which Wordfast you're using (Classic, Pro, Anywhere), nor your platform (Windows, Mac, Linux), but I'll assume you are using Windows (since you are switching to Studio 2011).

The format of a Wordfast TM is the same regardless of the Wordfast client being used, but the exact procedure to export them to the TMX format is different in each of them (hence the importance of stating the exact program being used). Yasmin told you the procedure for Wordfast Pro. Alternatively, you can use Olifant, a free and highly recommended utility that can open Wordfast native TM's (TXT) and let you export them as TMX. TMX is what you want to import any TM (whether originating from Wordfast or from another tool) into Studio 2011.

The procedure with Classic 6.03t is the following:

1. Open the Data editor (2nd icon from the right on the toolbar)
2. Select the TM tab
3. Click on Tools > TM Tools and select Export TM as TMX:

Anaphraseus Aug 31, 2012

One more option: Anaphraseus that runs in Apache OpenOffice/LibreOffice can read Wordfast TXT translation memories and export them to TMX via its setup window:
