WFP 3.1.1 error message

Hi all,

I've just installed the latest version 3.1.1 Wordfast Pro on my Mac and now I have the problem that I can't move down to the next segment with down arrow & alt, I keep getting the message "Next segment (TM commit) did not complete normally" Java.lang. NullPointer.Exeption. When I move down with down arrow & cmd Never had any problems running version 2.4 on my Macbook.The programme also starts quite slow compared to the older version. Oh and it's a licensed version, not the free demo.

Java.lang.NullPointerException - Completely Uninstall Nov 24, 2012

Dear Christin,

Java.lang.NullPointerException error means you need to completely uninstall Wordfast Pro which means deleting the configuration files either on Mac or Windows.

Mac:

Step 1: Showing hidden files:

1- Open Terminal (you can search it in Finder)

2- Type:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

3- Press Enter

4- Type:

killall Finder

5- Press Enter

The first line changes the setting in Finder. The second line closes all open Finder windows, so that Finder will restart with the new configuration the next time you open a new window.

Step 2: Trashing .wf_workspace and re-installing:

1- You can find the .wf_workspace folder under the following path:

Users/(whatever is your user name)/

2- Trash .wf_workspace. (If you need your glossaries, open the "glossaries" folder and copy the txt files to a safe location so that you can Import them later.)

3- Find any Wordfast instances or files and trash them also.

4- Re-install Wordfast Pro.

Windows:

Re-install the latest version of Wordfast Pro. When you are asked to keep configuration files, answer with "NO". Make sure you first back up (Export) your glossaries, if any.

problem not yet resolved Nov 25, 2012

thanks very much for your prompt reply Yasmin. Unfortunately it has not been working, I can't seem to completely uninstall the program. I've tried the way you suggested and also with other software like AppZapp to completely erase all traces of Wordfast from the computer before re-installing it. But as soon as I download it again it's not a new Demoversion but already fully working with my license complete with saved TM's. And of course the error message continues...I really have no idea what's going on.

The question is: have you deleted .wf_workspace or not?
If not, so you have not followed the method.

Hi again Yasmin,

yes, I did delete .wf_workspace when following the method the second time round.
I was also wondering if the problem could be caused by having wordfast installed with the same license code on two computers? On my old Macbook I currently still work with version 2.4 without problems while moving and updating everything to the new computer.

Licensing has nothing to do here.

So the problem was not solved?

If so, try to create a new user account on the problematic machine and install WF Pro on.

problem still remains Nov 26, 2012

Hi again Yasmin,

I tried that, downloaded a new version of WFP under a new user account. When I open it under that user it's in Demo Mode, when I open it under my usual user account via the applications folder it opens again as the fully licensed version and the error is exactly the same, Java.lang.NullPointerException whenever I try to move down a segment with down arrow +alt.

The computer I'm trying to install it on is a brand new MacBook pro with OS X Mountain Lion.

It is a good news that WFP works under the new user account. You can just license it using the new Install No. on the new account.

partially solved Nov 26, 2012

Hi again Yasmin,

thanks for all your help with this problem. I'm still quite desperate though. I have re-licensed WFP under the new user and it seems to be working ok so far. But I still can't open it under my usual user-account. It doesn't even show the new install number but the previous one when opened in this account. It's not really a solution for me to log out and change to another account whenever I need to work in WF, especially as a lot of other applications are running at the same time, which are all in my usual account. Is that really the only way to run WFP?

Had the same problem Nov 26, 2012

Had the same problem today, on an iMac running Mountain Lion.
Downgrading seems to have solved it. Go to the download page http://wordfast.com/store_download.html and download the previous build (3.1.0).

Workaround for 3.1.1 users to stop this exception:

Go to Window > Show View > Select Outline, now Next Segment shortcut Alt+Down should work fine. Error occurs when outline view needs to be refreshed.

This is fixed in latest version and should be released very soon.
