Hi guys,

I have received a couple of XLIFF files and translated them in xliff.txml format.
Now that the translation work is done I want to "Save translated file" but I keep getting empty .XLIFF files as a result.
No error message appears, the stuff just silently fails.
What could be wrong?

Thanks for any help in advance!

saving problem Jul 18, 2013

Pl try this. I am working on WF Pro 3.1.5
First save the file :File-->Save as..... so by default it may be saved as (filename_target language) ( the original and translated file should be in the same folder). This is just to save your bilingual file.
Next, do : File-->Save translated file.
Then open this file -> you will see the translated output in the clean file.

Thanks Srini Jul 18, 2013

I have tried to follow your suggestions, but it does not help me.

My problem may have to do with the magic ".properties" files for the filters.
Last year Yasmin helped me with that, but now it has stopped working.
Or maybe I am searching totally in the wrong direction.

By the way, my Wordfast is: Version: 3.2.0, Build id: 20130606-0430
My OS is Windows 7.
Room temperature is 31 degrees Celcius.

This is a bug in version 3.2. I will send you a link to the beta version of 3.2.1 that resolves this issue. We will be releasing 3.2.1 to the public very soon.

Also, you may want to adjust your air conditioner. That temperature seems too hot to work

Sincerely,

Kristyna

WF Pro version Jul 18, 2013

As the WFP 3.2 is new and as a computer professional, I am apprehensive of using any new versions (sometimes called beta versions) till the performance is proven, to prevent jeopardizing the current working. That's why I am still using 3.1.5, no hassles. Apparently there is a bug in 3.2

So I need to back to a previous version of WFP? Jul 18, 2013

Version 3.2.1 may be out soon, but probably not soon enough to meet my client's deadline.
What pitfalls can I expect if I install an older version of WFP?

workaround Jul 18, 2013

This may be a viable workaround, without downgrading your installation.
Can you create an acct in freetm.com and use the wordfast anywhere? There are certain TM limitations I think.
I use WFA when I am away from home- that's I download the doc from WFpro 3.1.5 and load in WFA so I can work at any PC ( I don't find laptop screen to be comfortable). when I am back home , may be after a day or two, I reverse the process and continue to use my PC copy of WFpro

Files saved succesfully Jul 19, 2013

Well, I have solved my problem.

Kristyna was so kind to send me a beta version of WFP V3.2.1.
I installed and tested it.
Unfortunately it did not solve the problem.

Then I went back to WFP V3.1.5...
It worked right out of the box!
So my problem is solved, but it seems there is still a bug in WFP V3.2 and in WFP V3.2.1 beta.

Was this a bug I could/should have known about?
Or am I the first one to discover it?

Thank you all for helping me on this case!

XLIFF File Jul 19, 2013

Hi Evelien,

We knew about the bug in 3.2, but thought it was resolved in 3.2.1. Is it possible for you to send me the XLIFF file privately so we can investigate and resolve the issue?

Sincerely,

Kristyna

Easy fix! Jun 10, 2014

Evelien, I don't know if this will help you, but the Wordfast Helpline found the source of the problem for me.

All you need to do is run a transcheck for tabs when you have finished your translation. If one single tag is missing from the target file, this will prevent the file from saving correctly. It's such an easy solution and I am glad to have finally sorted this out.
