Dear all
I am on a very tight schedule and its taking 1,5 second to type each LETTER in Wordfast translation.
The PC has a new hard drive and the performance in word or any other texting (as in this message) is up to speed. Can anyone tell me why this happens?
Thank you!
Ines

Change Memory Preferences Nov 15, 2014

You can try to change the Memory Preferences (menu Edit->Preferences->Memory Preferences) to see if there is any difference.

If you have a huge file you can split it into smaller Txml files (under PM Perspective, choose Split/Merge)

Hope this helps.

Split the file... Nov 15, 2014

...keeping format, translate the necessary (remaining) parts separately, and then run Alt+Ctrl+F on the initial file using the generated/updated TM.
This issue is a kind of mystery, probably related to some "bad", WF-unsavoury part/s in the source file.

More info needed Nov 15, 2014

What OS are you using (Windows, Mac...)? Which version of Wordfast Pro? Does the slowness occur with every file you're translating, or only in the one particular document you're working on? If so, what kind of document is this (file format, size etc.)?

The suggestions made by linhdan are worth trying.

CAT tools compiled in high-level programming languages Nov 15, 2014

The fastest software is compiled in Assembler or something relatively low-level like C or C++. Unfortunately, CAT tools are not necessarily the wonders of cutting-edge technology that translation agencies' marketing makes them out to be. Where your CAT was complied in Visual Basic(!) or something like that, performance can be far from stellar.

Depending on the configuration of your PC — including how old it is, basically — it may be possible to replace your processor with something faster without spending too much money. Or add some RAM if large files are the problem.

Keyboard lag can be reduced by using a keyboard with an old PS/2 port rather than the modern standard USB.

It is the file... thanl you all! Nov 15, 2014

Dear Colleagues
It did help to divide the file in several parts. It is still very slow but not as excruciatingly slow as it has been all day.
Thank you all and wish you never get a job like this. It was a PDF converted (poorly) by the cliente into word.

PS: Windows PC
Have a great weekend

You may want to run the Document Cleaner function of Translator Tools in such a document, prior to opening it in Wordfast Pro.

Thousands of Wordfast Classic users would beg to differ...
