And what is the problem actually? Feb 21, 2015

You post is almost incomprehensible. The only thing more or less clear is that you get some error message. What did you do? What error message do you receive and when? Etc, etc. Thus, describe you actions step-by-step in every possible detail. And consider learning to ask smart questions.

Heres the story....

I have translated a word doc in WFA and then with the final translation I wanted to align the documents, both documents are word .doc format.
I go to menus select align documents-
it opens another window asks me to choose files and then proceed to upload.

It doesn't actually give me an error code as such, but just says that an error has occurred and it has not been able to align the files.

I wanted to align the docs to keep the document as much as original.

I hope this helps a little more.

What error? Feb 21, 2015

It would certainly help if you cared to mention what error you got.

The best place to ask for help about Wordfast Anywhere is the dedicated mailing list, since it's attended by its developers.

If you're not having luck with the Wordfast Online Aligner, you can try LF Aligner.

re: update.

It say that it was unable to detect the languages.

Limitations of Wordfast Online Aligner Feb 21, 2015

Luke Mersh wrote:

One of the languages has to be English: is this the case? If it is, and the aligner still fails to detect languages, I'm afraid you'll have to use another aligner, for instance LF Aligner (mentioned in my previous post).

The Wordfast Online Aligner wants to be smart and insists on guessing the languages all by itself. Even if it's not able to do it, or if it fails to guess the right languages, it won't let you fix it.

Hi Dominique.

Yes I work with Spanish and English.

So I can not see a problem there.

It is very disappointing not being able to use it.

I will have to leave a post on that forum/ group you mentioned.

Check the languages Feb 21, 2015

Well, if the aligner reports that it can't detect the language(s), make sure that the text languages of the English and Spanish documents are actually set to English and Spanish respectively.

BTW, I don't find the WFA aligner very good and second Dominique's advise: try LF Aligner. Or PlusTools (a set of Word macros that saves alignment output to WF TM format).

The purpose of aligning documents Feb 21, 2015

Luke Mersh wrote:

The purpose of aligning documents is to produce a TM (translation memory). Alignment won't format a target file (i.e. your translation).

I have translated a word doc in WFA

Aligning documents after translating in a CAT tool doesn't make sense.

@Emma.

I thought it would be good when working with medical reports.

Then I am unclear on how to use this function, I thought it was used on already translated documents.??

Yes, translated documents Feb 21, 2015

Yes, alignment is used on already translated documents (with the respective original available). Its purpose is to create a translation memory, as Emma points, in order to
a) obtain a TM for future reuse, or
b) update an existing TM after, for example, the translation was updated by a reviewer.

@Esperantisto

Thank you for that clarification, but as I said it seems that WFA online aligner is unable to detect the languages of the documents translated in WFA.

So it seems I will have to do some more reading.
To learn how to use it.
