Welcome, Kristen)

I used WordFast as a tiny VBA MS Word plug-in (now it's 'Classic'), as a rather bulky cross-platform JAVA standalone ('Pro'), and as a web-based app ('Anywhere'), so far it appears I still prefer 'offline' WFC ('C' stands for 'Classic') not only because it's really lightweight and flexible, but also because of a usual MS Word native environment and its settings, which help me a lot.

Frankly, I don't mind working via WFA, however I use it from time to time for
1) one should consider NDA (even taking into account the vendor's disclaimer and https - a secure protocol option);
2) rather rigid interface and features/limited settings (comparing to WFC/Pro);
3) a fast and stable Internet connection required, of course (which is not always possible for me, at least not 'anywhere');
4) not so fluent work-flow (to my mind);
5) occasional 'site maintenance' and other nuances.

Don't get me wrong: it's pretty cool, powerful, and free (!) online tool for a specialist, yet it's up to a translator how, when, and which tool to use. For now, the best thing I fancy about WFA is its .PDF handling)

Cheers.

These are the same main reasons that I stick with WF Classic - its simplicity, reliability, confidentiality, an interface I am used to and like, and non-dependence on an internet connection.

with Windows 10? Nov 8, 2015

Thank you both!

What about WF with Windows 10?

My problem is, I have been a translator since 2005, so I used to use WF and Trados regularly, and was quite familiar with the technology. Then I had kids and stopped translating. I am just now jumping back in and trying to get up to speed. AND, Windows 10 is awful! I'm trying to figure out do I use WFC or Pro or Anywhere? I don't want to invest in Trados again right now. My main client also uses an online translation tool, which is very similar to WF Anywhere, so I feel that I can get buy, but then what about building and creating my own usable TM?

Thanks!

Wordfast has very little interaction with Windows 10: Classic interacts primarily with MS Office (all Windows versions of Office are compatible with it, rule of thumb: the newer Office is, the slower Classic operations will be, all things being equal); Pro interacts with Java, and Java works on all versions of Windows, including 10; Anywhere interacts with your browser (recommended browsers: Chrome & Firefox), as long as you have a functional internet connection, Windows 10 doesn’t really matter.

As a novice CAT user you could try several, because most of them are trial or limited (say, WFC is full-featured, but has some 500TU limit, which is pretty enough for a short project) yet do give the overall idea and impression.

Don't forget that, for instance, free on-line Wordfast Anywhere does provide a few cool features--to extract frequent (e.g. terminology), to split a file and to share TM/glossary and others, which greatly enhance co-working with colleagues or a supervisor.... See more
