Hello.
I used Wordfast Pro on a project. The client now wants the files in sdlxliff format.
There are 29 files and 15000 words.
How can I create sdlxliffs from the TM/TMX?
Xbench (please explain process) or Wordfast/Trados export?
thanks

Purpose of SDLXLIFF? Dec 18, 2015

You should ask your client what they need the SDLXLIFF files for. If they want them in order to be able to update their TMs, you can send them your translated TXML files. Just in case (if they are ignorant), tell them TXML is a supported file format in SDL Trados Studio. They will be able to import your TXML files and send all your translations to their TM.

AFAIK, no tool (whether Wordfast, Xbench or even Trados) has a "Save as SDLXLIFF" option. You may be able to convert your TXML

AFAIK, no tool (whether Wordfast, Xbench or even Trados) has a "Save as SDLXLIFF" option. You may be able to convert your TXML to XLIFF (= plain XLIFF, not the SDL variant) with Xbench, but why bother? Plain XLIFF offers no particular advantage over TXML for a Trados user.

If an SDLXLIFF files are an absolute must, they should be supplied to you by your client prior to performing the translation. You can then translate them in Wordfast Pro (which can open SDLXLIFF files), save the translated file (as SDLXLIFF) and send the translated SDLXLIFF back to your client.

Additional comment Dec 18, 2015

They may need to install the File Type Definition for Wordfast TXML OpenExchange app before they are able to open TXML files.

Can't be done Dec 18, 2015

It can't be done in WFP3/4. SDLXLIFF files are created from the original files (e.g. if you originally had 29 DOCX files, you have to open those 29 DOCX files in Trados 2009+ to convert them to SDLXLIFF files). If the client wanted SDLXLIFF files, they should have specified it from the start.

WFP3/4 can't create SDXLIFF files, but WFP3 can translate SDLXLIFF files (sort of), so you can ask the client to create the untranslated SDLXLIFF files for you, and then you can open them in WFP and re-translate them against the TM. There will be some tag differences, but you should be able to re-use most of the TM. The client may then be able to use those SDLXLIFF files.

Typical of translationzone.com Dec 21, 2015

This is typical of this SDL site: links are always broken.

Here is a new one that works 10 seconds ago:

http://www.translationzone.com/openexchange/app/filetypedefinitionforwordfasttxml-919.html?c=95856#95856

No garantee it will still be working when you read this

If not, go to http://www.translationzone.com/freelance-translator.html , click on the Search icon and enter "TXML" in the search field. This should display the link du jour for the plugin.
