WordFast Pro 5 on MacOS Sierra quits unexpectedly and won't open anymore

Couldn't find this in the forum.
About 50% of the time WFP5 fails to open on the first try. Then it's ok. Today it just won't open anymore, it keeps quitting unexpectedly.
I haven't changed/updated anything on my Mac.
I'm not using the latest version of WFP5 because it had issues like losing my progress %, deleting segments and failing to commit them to the TM (this is still happening).

What version? Oct 9, 2017

Hi Andare,

What is the exact version of WFP5 you are using? What about Mac (10.12.6)?

Thanks,
John

Hi, I'm using 5.0.3 on macOS 10.12.6

Another problem is when I reopen a file all the segments that I'd already translated and committed to the TM appear translated but marked in pink and sometimes a segment disappears. I have to recommit every segment manually to get back 100% progress.

Try 5.2.1 beta or current public build Oct 11, 2017

Hi Andare,

I would try the current public build or the 5.2 beta build:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_JjtVOA_tb5M3p2dmZnRXROQ28

Segments turn pink when you reopen a file by design. I don't agree with this behavior but others think it should do this. I don't think this should be changing your progress completion bar however. You do not need to recommit them. I suggest committing all at the end to ensure your TM is up to date or using Cleanup from the current project view to generate target files and update the TM at the same time.

Best,
John

Segments turning pink Oct 11, 2017

WFP5 seems to be opening correctly now so I won't fix what's not broken. I'm downloading the beta anyway in case it starts to act up again.

The way I work is I'll translate a file completely and close it. When I reopen it to check or update single words/sentences I don't want to see the pink segments, I don't want one or two segments to randomly disappear and I don't want to see 98,4% even when all the segments are there.
With a project with dozens of files it's important that the progress doesn't change so I don't get lost.

Cleanup seems interesting however I often need to send files to clients at different times so I use Save as Translated on single files and I can't rely on fixing all the problems at the end of the job.
People have different workflows and client demands.

Thanks a lot for the support John!

Sorry for not replying sooner…

The progress bar discrepancy is probably caused by unedited exact or MT segments. Please see here for how progress is calculated: http://wordfast.com/WFP/5.2/c1600490.html
I think it should consider all committed segments as complete and there is a ticket to do so.

You can cleanup individual files one at a time via the Current Project view icon, though it is not intuitive. Instead of leaving All Languages Pairs selected, select Single Language Pair, then the languages, then you will see a list of files with tick boxes.

Best,
John
