I've recently changed computers. My new computer came with the Windows Vista operating system. I downloaded Wordfast into it, but I get an error when trying to open it into a document. Is there anybody who has gotten Wordfast to work with Vista?

I'd appreciate any help I can get.

I use the Word 2007 version.

Security settings Aug 20, 2007

Ira,
I had the same problem. Most probably you need to change the security settings.
Here goes (from WfReadMe file included in the zip archive):
====
If installation cannot be completed because of macro security settings:

Start Ms-Word. Use the "Tools/Macro" menu.

1. If there is a "Security" sub-menu, set security to "low".
2. If there is a "Trusted sources" pane, go there and
check the "Trust the Visual Basic project" checkbox.

(Office 2007: Click the Office button, then "Word options".
Select "Trust Center". Click "Trust Center Settings".
Check "Disable all macros except digitally signed macros".
Check "Trust Access to the VBA project object model".
If "Security warning - Macros have been disabled" appears,
click "Options", check "Trust documents from this publisher".

3. Close Ms-Word.

Double-click wordfast.dot to retry installation.

If the automatic installation procedure fails, download the English manual,
go to the "Installation" section, which shows two other installation procedures.
====

BTW - I found Word 2007 TERRIBLY slow - taking ca. 7-8 seconds to go from one segment to the next. Regretfully, I could not accept such performance and switched back to Word 2002.

My machine is an HP Pavilion notebook 1 GB RAM, dual core Centrino 1.66. Translation memory with 167k+ units / ca. 26 MB in size.

HTH
Marek

Word 2007 may be the problem Aug 20, 2007

Have you used Wordfast with that version of Word before? There was a rumor that Microsoft was going to drop support of VisualBasic scripting in the new version of Word, and I'm pretty sure that's how Wordfast operates.

No idea if the rumor was true, as I'm still using Word 2003.

Marek,

I'm pretty sure I changed the security settings, but I'll try your more detailed method in case that solves it.

Steven,

You could be right. The error I get says "Visual Basic" something. I got the impression that Wordfast is not supported at all, either by Vista or by Word 2007.

I may have to acquire Word 2000 and install it.

Thanks guys.

What does the error message say? Aug 20, 2007

Steven, You could be right.

The rumours Steve mentioned, I believe, only concerned MS Word for MacIntoshes, not for Windows.

The error I get says "Visual Basic" something.

Now, this "something" might be the key. What is the error message number and what does the message say? Some messages are obscure but some are actually helpful.

David,

A box appears with the title "Microsoft Visual Basic".

Inside the box it says:

Execution time error '6068' has occurred:
Programming access to the Visual Basic project is not reliable.

My Vista o.s. is in Spanish, so the above message was retranslated into English.

this may help: Aug 20, 2007

This error apparently arises because access to VBA projects is disabled by default as a security measure.

The following site describes how to enable access:

Hmmm -- that's almost the same information as Marek posted. If it didn't help then, it may not help now...

Thanks boys Aug 21, 2007

Marek and Ken,

I tried the steps both of you posted. It worked like a charm! I'm very excited.

I thought I was going to have to get rid of my version of Office or something.

Where do I send the check?

Thanks again. You guys are awesome.
