To be honest, I have not used any CAT tools much and I have just downnloaded the demo version of Wordfast. I just had a client ask me if i can work with .mif files on Wordfast and I have no idea. Anyone familiar with it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

.mif files are ASCII Mar 13, 2008

See here for a sample .mif file:

. . . so theoretically, it should work. The problem is that Word won't open a file with a .mif extension. If you can get rename it and make it a .txt file, then Word should be able to open it, and Wordfast should work.

there seem to be several types of .mif file... Mar 13, 2008

See e.g.

http://filext.com/file-extension/MIF

Maybe your client means Framemaker Interchange Format files. Wordfast certainly can't handle them directly (it can only handle MS Office file formats and -- sort of -- PDF), but there might be a workaround.

Although it would be more fair to say: no, you can't.

If the client means Framemaker files, then the answer is no. But while you're at it, tell him that you can translate .rob files, if he wants it (no, just kidding).

There is solution Apr 4, 2008

When it comes to mif files that come from FrameMaker give mif2go a try. This piece of software, or a plug-in should I say, can convert mif to doc. It works for me.
Here is the website where you can download it: http://www.omsys.com/dcl/omni.htm

Cheers,
TN
