English translation:secondary school
Explanation:
A Swedish student, if he or she was deemed suitable for book learning, spent his fifth through his ninth school year in the secondary school (realskolan) which also constituted the lower half of the "läroverk". It was concluded by the "realexamen" (secondary school diploma) after which the student either went on to the "gymnasium" (high school) or started working. This system was disbanded in the mid-60's and replaced by the comprehensive school.
