German term or phrase: zeitgerechte Produktion
Hi there,
Have got a problem in the following sentence because am not sure whether zeitgerechte Produktion means producing the food on time or something along the lines of "contemporary production" - i.e. that the grub is up to date or whatever. Please can someone steer me in the right direction..
Moderne Großküchen sind dadurch logistisch
mehrfach gefordert. Vom Einkauf über die Vorratshaltung
bis hin zur zeitgerechten Produktion

Just in time production (JIT)
Just in time is a ‘pull’ system of production, so actual orders provide a signal for when a product should be manufactured. Demand-pull enables a firm to produce only what is required, in the correct quantity and at the correct time.

Just-in-Time" Production

The philosophy behind "just-in-time" is not to sell products produced, but to produce products to replenish those that have been sold. Just-in-time production supplies the right parts at the right time and in the right amount at every step in the process. The system also exposes problems that may not be apparent by excess inventories.

Just-in-time

agree  Henry Schroeder: It definitely refers to this kind of time, though I'm not wildly enthusiastic about "just-in-time" as an adjective.

agree  Béatrice Öman: you beat me by a second :-)

neutral  Colin Newberry: OK, "JIT" (abbreviated or not, fully acceptable as an adjective), but "production"?. "Grossküche" or not that makes it sound more like swill for the pigs.

timely production/production in good time

Explanation:
I don't think with the stress "Großküchen" are under, they need additional stress by being ready just-in time, timely production or production in good time seems, therefore, much more appropriate.

disagree  Béatrice Öman: Sorry, but this whole "zeitgerecht" thing has been taken up by industrial engineering and lean management, so I think it's safe to say that just-in-time is idiomatic in terms of production, whether it's a good choice in terms of kitchens or not
