Abbreviation Explanation: Hi, I think this is some kind of abbreviation for some words put at the end of the name of some honorable/religious person. If you can tell what T.U.S. stand for some one can help you out. |

ط ع Explanation: I could not find out what the abbreviation actually stands for, but I can tell you how it would be translated when written in Urdu. It is abbreviated as ط ع, written in superscript over the name of the person. I saw it in one of the children's links on http://www.mumineen.org/ If you go to the links given at the bottom of this website, click on Busaheba.org There, click on the link called "علمی غذا" with a little bird next to it, you'll see the name of the person with this abbreviation. I saw the same abbreviation as a superscript elsewhere in the "Gugrati-Arabic" text of this organization as well, so I can safely recommend this as a translation for TUS. Also, it seems like this organization prefers the abbreviation to the full text, because as hard as I tried I could not find a single instance of the abbreviation written out in full. I don't know the language (Gugrati-Arabic) spoken by this organization, but an Urdu speaker can decipher parts of it. For example, the first sentence in the reference I have provided, to my understanding reads: خدا تعالی مولانا برھانالدین کی عمرشریف قیامت تک دراز کرے It is on this name that the abbreviation ط ع is present as a superscript. 'Tavallalaho Umarahoo-Sh-Sharif' طوال لہ عُمرہُ الشریف Explanation: T.U.S is the English abbreviation of an Arabic phrase طوال لہ عُمرہُ الشریف which is used for Dr. Syedna Muhammad Burhanuddin Saheb by his followers as a prayers and means ' May his blessed age be long' or 'May he live long' as we say. Hope it helps !! Regards, -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day43 mins (2007-04-27 18:36:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yes Nesrin, there should be a 'tashdeed' both on (و ) and (ل ) ......( I think an 'Alif' has been written extra by me)... but it is not اللہ here but لہ because prayer is being made for that person Please correct me if I am wrong because, you are native Arabic speaker who are, however, better conversant with Arabic than we Ajamees. Regards,۔ |
