Explanation: HEP stands for Head End Power and the HEP inverter provides power to electrical systems in the whole train (lighting, heating, etc.), but does not supply traction power. Some locomotives have rotary inverters, others have solid-state systems (and some generate HEP with a small dielsel engine driving an alternator). 'Onduleur' refers to the solid-state variety, whereas the generic 'inverseur' covers all types.
