previously named Pedagógico or known as Pedagógico Explanation: Is it from Chile? I think I wouldn't translate the name of the institution if this goes in a CV. The Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación was before known by the name of 'Pedagógico' |

formerly Institute of Teaching Explanation: I would use "formerly" (adverbial form); this is commenly used here in the US when referring to the former name of an institution or a company. As translating the school's name, there are several options, of course, and the tricky part is distinguishing it from the school's current name. I would suggest looking up the school's web site. Many universities have information in English and already have their own "official" English translations of their name. If that is the case, you would want to use the institution's own "official" English name, even if it may not be the best translation. |
