systolic anterior movement of the chordae tendinae Explanation: heart.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/49/3/234 The mechanism of systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve and the localisation of the intraventricular pressure gradient were determined in 15 cases of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy by the combined use of real time two dimensional echocardiography and intracardiac manometry. We arrived at the following conclusions. The systolic anterior motion of the mitral echo in the M-mode echocardiogram can be classified into two types, I and II, based on two dimensional echocardiographic findings. In type I, the echo sources of systolic anterior motion are the anteriorly shifted mitral chordae and, in part, the papillary muscles. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2008-06-25 06:16:49 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- systolic anterior MOTION of course, sorry. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2008-06-25 06:18:29 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- American Heart Journal - Fulltext: Volume 131(4) April 1996 p 748 ...By using a retrospective database search, patients were identified who had systolic anterior motion of the mitral chordae tendineae but no other features ... pt.wkhealth.com/pt/re/amhj/fulltext.00000406-199604000-00020.htm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2008-06-25 07:07:11 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.ihop-net.org/UniPub/iHOP/pm/633628.html?pmid=8721... Systolic anterior motion of the mitral chordae tendineae: prevalence and clinical and Doppler-echocardiographic features. Pearson AC, Pasierski TJ, Orsinelli DA, Gray P, Huschart K Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 43210-1228, USA. The objective of this investigation was to determine the prevalence and clinical associations of systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral chordae (chordal SAM) in patients without evidence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Although SAM of the mitral valve is thought to be a specific marker of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, little is known about the clinical significance of chordal SAM either as an isolated echocardiographic finding (ICSAM) or in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2008-06-25 07:08:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- You could also use "chordal SAM" AATS: Novel Surgical Approach to Myxomatous Mitral Valve RepairIn Group I, mitral leaflet SAM occurred in 4 patients and chordal SAM in 1 patient ...
