Ultrasound technician

Explanation:
I have a (pregnant) friend in the US who talks about her "ultrasound technician". The ultrasound is done by a technician who gives the results to the OB who studies them and THEN gives the patient the news.

The technicians are not supposed to give medical directly to the patient - only a qualified doctor is supposed to do that.

The word "sonographer" is also used.
