Italian term or phrase: mostro/mostrare+contrassegnato+attraversare
L'"architettura senza forma di edificio" che mi sembra *contrassegnabile* con il generico aggettivo 'monstre', con tutta la sua ambiguità. *Mostrare, mostrarsi, essere mostruosi*. Che il tema *attraversi* tutta intera la sotria dell'arte è un fatto che invita alle "controstorie".

il problema principale è che non credo che in inglese si possa rendere la parentela tra mostro e mostrare, e non so proprio come fare - si tratta di un punto basilare, che non può in nessun modo andare perduto...

Poor you!
Explanation:
I had the same kind of problem with a text last year, and I got around it with hyphens, so I could use "proper" English words yet still show off how clever (!) the author is.
In your case, you could play things this way:
"To de-monstrate, de-monstrating, being monstrous".

As to the rest...

... which I feel can be distinguished with the general adjective 'monstre', in all its ambiguity. To "de-monstrate", "de-monstrating", being monstrous. The fact this theme cuts across all of art history opens the door to "counter-histories".

Grazie a tutti!

Explanation:
contrassegnabile - can be described using the generic ...
mostro/mostrare - perhaps use the words monster, demonstrate, monstruosity with the "monst" bits emboldened to highlight the connection ...?
attraversi - that the theme runs right through the history of art

1. defined/definable 2. show/show -off/showy/showiness 3. throughout

Explanation:
1. contrassegnabile =definable
2.just some ideas to play with
if you want to keep the word play:

I'm not sure 'mostrarsi' is meant negatively, but 'show-off' can also mean 'exhibit' - so perhaps it could work. 'Showy' can mean monstruous/hideous/ostentatious, while 'showiness' is a synonym of 'gaudiness'/'flashiness'.
3. ..that the theme is repeated throughout the history of art/is a recurring theme throughout...
