A development work egyszerű részvétel valamilyen fejlesztésben, de amikor a developmental work kifejezést használjuk, akkor ezzel azt jelezzük, hogy neki tulajdonítható jelentős érdem a fejlesztésért, ami jelentheti, hogy ő volt a fejlesztési téma kezdeményezője, vagy fő résztvevője vagy pénzelője. Minthogy díjat kapott érte, egyértelmű, hogy jelentős volt az érdeme.
