أما بالنسبة "لكل مقام مقال" فلا أعتقد أن القولين المأثورين متشابهان من حيث المضمون
هذا مقتطف من مقالة وجدتها على الانترنت:

" وقد كانت عناية ابن قتيبة بالكاتب والمكتوب إليه فائقة حيث ألف كتابه لهذا الغرض يقول: "ونستحب له –الكاتب- أيضا أن ينـزل ألفاظه في كتبه فيجعلها على قدر الكاتب والمكتوب إليه وأن لا يعطي خسيس الناس رفيع الكلام، ورفيع الناس وضيع الكلام"(75).

وهذا ليس بمحمود في كل موضوع ولا بمختار في كل كتاب، بل لكل مقام مقال، ولو كان الإيجاز محمودا في كل الأحوال لجرده الله تعالى في القرآن، ولم يفعل الله ذلك ولكنه أطال تارة للتوكيد وحذف تارة للإيجاز وكرر تارة للإفهام.(76)

ويحتاج الكاتب إلى معرفة المكاتبين عند من يكتب عنه وما يليق بهم من الأوعية والعنوانات على حسب ما تقتضيه مرتبة مخدومه بين مراتبهم فينزل كل واحد منهم مرتبته اللائقة به، يقول ابن السيد: "ومراتب المكاتبين ثلاثة: مرتبة من فوقك ومرتبة من هو مثلك ومرتبة من هو دونك، ولكل طبقة من هذه الطبقات مرتبة في المخاطبة ومنزلة متى زيد عليها أو قصر به عنها وقع في الأمور الخلل وعاد ذلك بالضرر"(77)."
