English term or phrase: tracking about 79% reliability on the delivery out of the factory
我不明白 reducing inventory and "tracking about 79% reliability on the delivery out of the factory"的關係, 好像有點上文不對下理的感覺。請這方面expert指教。Thank you.

At the same time, we have to reduce the inventories. We have to take this inventory out in a way where we still improve the service level to our customer. We are right now tracking about 79% reliability on the delivery out of the factory, which is far off. So now is the time to really deliver on the supply chain management concept, ideas and processes.

Explanation:
my understanding: tracking about = (on a graph, over time) the plot line moves up and down around this point

My understanding: '79% reliability of delivery' should mean that 79% of orders can be delivered out of the warehouse stock-on-hand, but 21% have to go on back-order to be supplied later when more stock comes in (or something like that)

A certain quantity of inventory should be kept for a certain product so that the product will be available to customers upon request. However, if the quantity of inventory stored is too high, then the storage costs will become higher. In order to cut costs, product inventory is usually reduced to a reasonable quantity that the product is available to customers upon request and the product will not become out of stock (not reliable in supply chain).

Therefore, there is a tradeoff between inventory reduction and supply chain reliability. The more inventory kept, the higher the costs in storage and the higher the supply chain reliability. On the contrary, the less inventory kept, the lower the costs in storage and the lower the supply chain reliability.

Asker: Thanks for your reply. Yes, this part is alright, I understand the meaning of supply chain. But what I dont understand is how reducing inventory affects supply chain reliability? Here is my translation of the first part(it's a voice-over script in Cantonese): 與此同時,我地要減少存貨。我地需要係減少存貨既同時,仍然可以提高對客戶既服務水平。(question sentence)。所以,而家要真正實現供應鏈既管理概念,想法同程序。

Asker: ok. I just saw this after posting my note!

Asker: Many thanks Shirley. That clarified my confusion.
