neutral  R. Alex Jenkins: I don't think it can be 'ordinal' because the word used here is an adjective.

agree  coolbrowne: Yes, in this context we have continuous measures and ordinal measures. They happen to be called, respectively "contínuas" and "ordenáveis" in the corresponding technical jargon in Portuguese (whether I like it or not). Ergo, "ordinal" here is an adjective

I'm going to give my suggestion and let others take their pot shots.

I think this is a question of badly expressed Portuguese.

"The Mann-Whitney test was applied in order to make a comparison between continuous measurements and/or THOSE SORTABLE between two groups".

I hope that's a pointer... maybe that can get you on the right track?

Cheers

ordered/to be ordered

Explanation:
All patients underwent radiological evaluation (cerebral computed tomography and / or magnetic resonance) for topographic correlation between speech and language assessment results and the brain injury site, both in the acute and the chronic stroke phases. In statistical analysis, either chisquare test was employed for comparison of categorical variables or Fisher's exact test when necessary, for continuous measures to be ordered in two groups the Mann-Whitney test was used; ANOVA was applied for comparisons among three or more groups, while Tukey's test was employed for multiple comparisons.
