Proširena stvarnost je tehnologija koja informacije iz stvarnog sveta kombinuje s računarski generisanim slikama i sadržajem i tako objedinjene ih prikazuje na ekranu računara ili mobilnog telefona. Time se korisnikovo viđenje sveta proširuje dodatnim informacijama.

Recimo, u nepoznatom gradu je dovoljno uperiti kameru mobilnog telefona na objekte oko nas, a telefon će preuzeti sve neophodne podatke sa Interneta, upariti ih sa koordinatama koje dobija od GPS prijemnika, te proveriti senzore gravitacije i kompasa. Na ekranu ćemo gledati stvarnost, prikazanu okom kamere, a u slojevima preko dobijati dodatne informacije o objektima oko nas.
