This is from a text on human resources management. What is a "laterale Versetzung" and how would you say it in English? (US English, but any ideas from British natives are also very welcome!)

Google mainly yields sites with technical stuff, i.e. machinery and such with some kind of lateral shift, which does not help me much...

Thanks in advance!

lateral move/transfer/reassignment
Explanation:
In the future we will increase lateral moves for employees

Lateral Transfers
Different job/position within the same level or grade
The Institute encourages lateral movement. It is essential that we develop and utilize our employee talent optimally and cross-train employees so that they may continue to add value to the organization. It is also highly beneficial to individual employees, as lateral movement broadens their base of knowledge and enhances their professional growth potential.

In a lateral move, an employee moves to an equivalent role in an organization, usually with a similar salary range and a job title at the same level. In a lateral move, though, the employee's job responsibilities change thus affording the employee new opportunities. A lateral move is an opportunity for an employee to expand his or her career path opportunities.

sideways/sidewards transfer

Explanation:
My suggestion, for what it's worth. It's neither a promotion or a demotion, just a means of broadening an individuals work experience and helping them become more flexible and knowledgeable.

In fact, it's the sort of thing the military has almost always done with its members!
