Explanation:
They call it 'savings', but they don't mean just savings accounts: they're measuring by all "ressources de la clientèle" (customer funds) at the bank. Some part of these may be held in investment products such as bancassurance which wouldn't be understood to be included in 'deposits', the traditional comparable metric for banks in the US.

Now, it is all savings in the economic sense: private-sector savings representing past and present income withheld from consumption. It includes transaction balances, short-term savings and long-term savings. Customers own these funds and lend them to the bank, which lends them on to the 'finance the economy', as French banks like to say. So plenty of 'provision of savings' is going on. Savers provide their savings to banks, banks provide them to borrowers (a.k.a. dissavers). All along the chain, the épargne represents a sum of money.

In this light, translating the source term ("savings collector") as "savings provider" seems particularly perverse, regardless of how widespread that phrase may have become in the UK. Savers do the saving, amass the (long-term) savings, and then … exchange those savings for something from a savings *provider*? Sounds like mis-selling to me.<g>

That 30.5% increase for the period, btw, is 'la collecte' for that period. The usual translation is "new money".

since the Caisse d'epargne uses this expression as well, I would suggest that Savings bank rather than savings provider is more accurate
