neutral  James (Jim) Davis: The reasoning is good, but I've never seen the word used in this context except in translation. I read the financial times everyday and I AM a native speaker and I wouldn't really know what an "instrumental cost" was. A really key cost perhaps.

The meaning is very clear having done my own accounts in Italy for many years and read the instructions to the 740 and now the UNICO, not to mention having translated many many financial reports. If I buy a computer to translate with, then as a translator this cost is "strumentale alla produzione del reddito". If I then buy another computer to play games on, then this is not "strumentale alla ...." The first is for use in my translation business, it is for business use. The second is not it is for other use. The first I can deduct, the second I can't.

agree  CristianaC: I must say this is not an understatement but an anglo-saxon approach. the only point I would make its that after there is - inerenti all'attività svolta- so your answer would cover both. Hi Jim, I answer in discussion no space here
