In Italian financial language, especially the prose, "flussi" appear everywhere, as stand alone nouns. In English financial reports they only apear in the cash flow statement, as cash flows (in the items and in the prose). You can never translate them as just "flows" on there own (prose or items). You have to translate without using the word flow in most cases (in the prose). Tutto là. I notice that Imogen considered "revenue streams". This would make sense in a managment accounting context when looking at the structure of a business and where its income is coming from, but you never have "expense or cost streams". Basically as I said in the post, if this is an income statment commentary (prose) then we don't want "flows". If it is a cash flow commentary or a net debt analysis then cash inflows and cash outflows are totally appropriate (in the prose and the captions).

Jim's point, but I also like to distinguish between items and prose. So, the cash inflows and outflows are recognised as income and expense in the income statement, but are explained as cash inflows and outflows. I stand to be corrected by Herr Davis, of course.
