Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals / Antibiotics
German term or phrase: weniger empfindlichen Keimen
Hello! Context: Product information for an antibiotic.

EN = Where necessary, the daily dose in adults and children can be doubled in particularly severe cases or in patients with infections that have fewer susceptible bacteria.

I am confused about the "fewer susceptible bacteria". This makes no sense to me microbiologically and therefore I am concerned I have misinterpreted... Could it be a lower susceptible bacterial count? Any ideas would be most welcome!

Therefore, dosage intervals may have to be increased to q 12 h or q 24 h for *less susceptible bacteria*.

Higher dosage may be needed for severe infections or those caused by less susceptible bacteria.

This may be increased to 40mg/kg/day in divided doses in otitis media, sinusitis, more serious infections and those caused by *less susceptible bacteria*.

pathogens with lower antimicrobial susceptibility

Explanation:
uyuni's answer is OK as well, but we can safely add 'antimicrobial' here because we know what susceptibility they're talking about...

When the germs are less susceptible to antimicrobials (antibiotics), the dose may be increased. Logical, isn't it?

more resistant pathogens

Explanation:
They need a HIGHER dose, which means they are more resistant

OK, then

"pathogens of increased resistance"

highly resistant pathogens

neutral  Harald Moelzer (medical-translator): but "more resistant pathogens" can also mean "more pathogens that are resistant"...thus, it does not solve Craig's question
