Ποιος τη χάρη σου, Peter! Τω καιρώ εκείνω (προ 40ετίας και πλέον), άλλοι ταλαπωρούνταν με ελληνικές γλωσσικές δομές και άλλοι νυμφεύονταν ωραίες Ελληνίδες :-)

Απ΄ό,τι φαίνεται, πέσαμε θύματα του συνδρόμου "βασιλικότερος του βασιλέως": εσύ παρατήρησες ότι οι ονομασίες των γλωσσών γράφονται με πεζό (σε αντίθεση με το κεφαλαίο της αγγλικής ορθογραφίας), ενώ εγώ πρόσεξα ότι γράφονται με κεφαλαίο (σε αντίθεση με την ουγγρική ορθογραφία όπου χρησιμοποιείται πεζό).

@ Andras: Yes, you appear to be correct. I now notice that some Greek dictionaries are saying that Ελληνικά [Greek language] may be written now with a capital "Ε". However, this was not the case when my highly educated Greek father-in-law coached me in Greek 45 years ago.

@Λυπάμαι που σε απογοητεύω, Peter, αλλά στα 48 χρόνια της γνωριμίας μου με τα Νέα Ελληνικά έβλεπα (και βλέπω) τους περισσότερους να γράφουν με Ε κεφαλαίο το (ουσιαστικοποιημένο) "Ελληνικά" / "Ελληνική", όταν αναφέρεται στη γλώσσα.

@ Andras: By the way, since you appear to be a stickler for points of linguistic accuracy, please permit me to remind you that "ελληνικά" [Greek language] is written with a lower case "ε" in Greek and not with a capital, as you have written in the fourth line of your entry of 11:06 of this morning. This only goes to show that even the best of us can mistakes occasionally!

Έχεις δίκιο, Peter: επεξηγηματικές περιγραφές μπαίνουν μερικές φορές και σε πιστοποιητικά. Αλλά inter-regional είναι μάλλον επιθετικός προσδιορισμός της association (και όχι του appraiser), και "οργάνωση" μπορεί κάλλιστα να αποτελεί (αδέξια) απόδοση του όρου "association", καθώς δεν υπάρχει ένα και μοναδικό ελληνικό ισοδύναμο για τον όρο αυτό στα Ελληνικά (σύνδεσμος; ένωση; κά.). Άρα ίσως δεν ήταν άχρηστο να σκάψει κανείς βαθιά, μέχρι τα ρωσικά πρότυπα.

@ Andras: Good morning. I was naturally aware that the first letter of each word of a title of an association or organisation is always written with a capital letter in English, and the reasons why I did not do so in my answer are as follows: (1) Daira had not written the words in this way herself; (2) if these words had been a Greek translation of the Organistion’s/Association’s title, each Greek word of the title would have started with a capital letter, too. I therefore concluded that it might not be a translation of the name of the Organisation or Association, but could have been an explanatory description of its scope and purpose [in which case, the first letter of each word would not be written in capitals]. I considered this possibility to be probable because the Greek text was not an accurate translation of the English equivalent of the Russian name.
