Nowadays, these are mostly electronic transfers (transferências eletrônicas/electrónicas) but other means are still in use, even snail mail. Please note that the transfer may be between accounts in the same bank, which makes "operação interbancária" definitely incorrect as a translation. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 7 hrs (2013-12-20 23:49:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- To be clear, a bank giro does <I>not require the sending and receiving accounts to be housed in different banks.
