insincere advice Explanation: It's a guess, but I'm pretty sure it's on the mark. I think it is understood by "insincere advice" that someone who one would normally think could be counted on to give good advice would instead give suboptimal advice (perhaps even advice which would be explicitly damaging if acted upon) in order to reduce the relative position of the individual or group receiving the advice. |

advice in bad faith Explanation: "False advice" doesn't do it for me. There is no doubt about what this phrase means, though. Often expanded to "advice given/provided in bad faith", but it resists contraction to "bad-faith advice". |
