Image you must translate the sentence "Never subestimate the power of the press". Could you figure out a copy of "The Times" running on the road by means of a 16-valve sheet, burning premium gasoline and devouring kilometers with a development of 75 horsepower? You don't do that, do you?
Otherwise, I'm sure you'll easyly can deal with the idea of the "influence", the "attraction", the "charme" or even the "feelings" that having such a motor-enhanced vehicule could work upon every single fellow man, really?
That's the trouble you're facing by translating "power" into Spanish: you should single out which sense wants the seller his product to be granted: "potencia" or "poder", cause that simple nuance hides the very big difference between two unequal cultural styles of life.

The translation would run as "nunca subestime [subestimes] la potencia de un Opel", but this is not the problem, is it?. Although I have illustrated a possible one -whether it is to be translated formally ("subestime [usted]") or informally ("subestimes [tú]"), there are a lot more possible "traps", depending on context and audience profiles.
