o anche "aiuta ad apprezzare meglio il quadro" (in cui secondo me "quadro" è facilmente interpretabile anche come "quadro della situazione").

qui canvas si riferisce allo sfondo, a una sorta di struttura o trama di qualcosa (nel caso specifico a una struttura statistica espressa con un'immagine, con mezzi visivi).
Ho pensato a "trama" perché rimanda a qualcosa di strutturato (mentre tela è in qualche modo una cosa piatta, un semplice sostrato su cui si dipinge).
Così l'immagine si sposterebbe un po' sull'idea del racconto, trama, ma anche di un possibile "ordito" - ma pare ci stia bene. Quando la trama di un libro è troppo complessa, la lettura diviene difficile (e di lettura di un grafico si può parlare). Alternativa all'aggettivo, "coerente", cioè senza mutamenti nei segni grafici e altri ausili impiegati.

o anche proprio: una struttura più regolare/coerente rende l'immagine più chiara (qui immagine in senso figurato).
