In a list of provime from the university of agriculture, Tirana, the last column has the headline "Provim". For most subjects, the column has the same word, PROVIM. For three subjects (Mbrojtje e Kafsheve, Radiologji-Ekografi, Nekropsi) it is replaced by FIRME.

The client writes, in an effort to explain it: "it means that is not a big exam with the ruls of the normal exams,it was different for example you could give it 2 times inside the season. And that we call them firm".l

Doesn't help much, I'm afraid. Is there a better explanation?

Explanation:
According to this context, to my understanding, what it means is that "firmë" is just a "test kontrolli", meaning not final as "provim". I don't think it has to do with a "signature". I have taken lots of "firma-s" during university in Albania. They were mainly midterm tests and weren't as crucial as exams. Again, with what is given in this context i cannot think of anything else except "Test kontrolli".

Explanation:
Perhaps it just means that the teacher signs verifying that the person took the course. ..signed as in "hedhe firmën".Perhaps the equivalent would be an "audited" course as in US universities.

As these kind of exams precede the most important ones, maybe it makes sense to translate it into pre-term exam.

Another good translation, if it fits to your client's needs, might be "attended".
