Medical - Medical (general) / CT/PET scan
Italian term or phrase: addensamento retroilare
This is part of a PET scan report for a patient who underwent a radical cystectomy and is having a follow-up examination.

The report says "... area di iperfissazione a livello di addensamento retroilare al lobo inferiore del polmone destro, sospetta per localizzazione di secondarismo, meritevole di rivalutazione."

In this context, I don't know whether to use "consolidation" or "increased density" for "addensamento" Also, I find very few English instances of "retrohilar" and I wonder whether there is a more widely used term that I can use to translate "retroilare."

Thanks as always.

The term 'retrohilar' is fine, never mind the few googles.

Yes, on second thoughts, I agree that it's best to stay away from the word 'mass' .''Retrohilar density' would be fine here. Cheers :-)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Barbara. Thank you for your suggestion. I had decided to stay away from the word "mass" because I also thought it goes too far beyond what the report says. (I used "density")

disagree  texjax DDS PhD: Mass is nowhere to be found in the report. Your cannot in any way state that the patient has a mass

-> You're right. On second thoughts, I share your and the asker's view that 'mass' "goes too far beyond what the report says". 'Retrohilar density' would be fine here.
