mortgaged Explanation: Or given as security/collateral or even, as my dictionary reference says, pawned. I'm not sure what "Befristungen bis zum Martinsfest" means though. Reference: http://www.dict.cc/?s=versetzen |

versetzen demise(d); (AmE-only for land) liened Explanation: My Herbst Swiss-German dictionary also gives 'verpfänden' (pledge or pawn). To avoid a double up with Satzdarlehen, I suggest a land lien for US consumption only (charge in E&W) or. for the UK, demise to cover a lease, mortgage, an incongruously modern-day legal charge or rudimentary transfer of possession. Befristungen bis zum (DE) Martinsfest/(AT) Martinifest: limitations in time until the Martinmas goose-eating festival around St. Martin's Day on the 11th November. Those abroad who are unfamiliar with this Martins/Martini/gans ritual . and have 'forgitten' the references thereto in Aronold Zweig's 'Das Beil von Wandsbeck' about a World War II butcher in Hamburg - should remember to book a restaurant or cafe table early.
