tax rebate (or tax to be rebated) Explanation: My Diccionario de Términos Contables del Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Públicos, while not always reliable, has "rebaja" as "allowance" or "rebate". A tax rebate often means a refund of taxes that have been overpaid, which would seem to apply here (pagado en exceso). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 37 mins (2016-03-15 18:37:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Your explanation in the discussion implies that this is perhaps simply a "reduction" rather than "deduction", given that a deduction has other connotations. As you say, a tax cut, while being a reduction, refers to a reduction of taxes across the board, not on an individual basis. |

overpaid taxes to be deducted Explanation: Your solution is right, Yvonne. As a line on the tax return it is simply an earlier overpayment to be deducted from the tax liability determined in the immediately preceding lines. |

(Ven) rebaja de impuestos (o impuesto a rebajar) [vs. degravámenes] (BrE) closing tax relief (or tax-relievable) vs. (BrE) exemptions > (AmE) opening reliefs Explanation: Tax abatement is AmE to my knowledge. Rbaja personal: BrE = personal tax allowance Tom West III's ES>*AmE* dictionary has tax cut for the first part and relief for the second part. (a capital gains hold-over relief in the *UK* means any gain earned can be carried over at the end to another year.) Example sentence(s):
