Vielen Dank,

Not much info was provided in this rather informal letter and I liked your suggestion. Carola's "showpiece" would have been another great fit.
Thank you.

display model, or live case study

Explanation:
Slightly humorous use of a term more at home in real estate. Literally "viewing object".

agree  David Hollywood: with "case study" I remember when my father swallowed a chicken bone that was luckily removed and the episode was then used as a "case study" ... if we don't get more context this might be ok but I have my suspicions that it might be much more than this

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Carola Lange: I tend to agree with your view that the terminology that the patient uses denotes quite a negative attitude towards the medical profession. I might even go as far as using the term 'showpiece' for the translation, but that might go a little too far

-> Thanks. At the very least, we have here a patient who's displaying a sense of humor.

clinical case

Explanation:
This is an unusual situation where a patient offers himself as a 'clinical case'. But patients are often selected as individual clinical cases in grand rounds for discussion with medical students:

"Last week we hosted our second Integrative Medicine Grand Rounds presentation. This clinical case was of a 27 year old man suffering from ..."
http://oshercenter.org/crohns-disease-clinical-case-presenta...

"A clinical case or two is presented at each Grand Rounds. The presenter is the most junior member of the medical team. Tradition dictates that the junior member has never met the patient but has been told to present the case by the consultant."
http://www.bmj.com/content/333/7582/1298

"The lecture is preceded by either a 30-minute clinical case or basic science presentation at 9:00 a.m. also in Lipsett."
