A standard engine that is fitted with a long duration camshaft Iike this is seldom efficient (produces good power). The reason for this is that, even though the valves are opencd earlier and perhaps higher, the actual inlet tract is completely standard and, as a con$equence, is the limlting factor to vo!umetric efficiency. This is nothing to do with the camshaft, but it frequently limits the effect of the camshaft timing. These camshafts are used when good mid-range power is essential.
