Hello dear colleagues,

from an article about how weight variation in pig production affects profitability. This is a rather business/economics heavy article. Lighter pigs mean lighter (smaller) prime cuts mean less profit.

Is the harvest buying scheme the slaughterhouse buying the live animals from the producer? And what would be the German term for this? Or is it at wholesale level? Thank you!

Asker: Danke Bernd für deine Hilfe! Ich denke allerdings, dass mit Harvesting Strategy etwas anderes gemeint ist als hier. Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe, möchte bei der Harvesting Strategy der Hersteller ein Produkt noch zu einem möglichst hohen Preis verkaufen, bevor die Produktion eingestellt und etwas Neues entwickelt wird. Bei den Schweinen hier geht es denke ich darum, die "harvest", also das Tier, nach Gewichtsklassen zu kaufen, also dass der Käufer hier die preisbestimmende Kraft ist und nicht der Erzeuger.
