Yes, I have heard them use the word "pata," too, for the same thing. But I interpreted for a guy (I know his family) who broke his ankle, and he kept referring to his "pie" every time, when clearly the part in question was his ankle. I've also heard people talk about their "mano," too, when they really were referring to their wrist.

I've never heard anyone confuse "pie" with "pierna" here. Perhaps you mean "pata"? Mexicans often use "pata" colloquially when referring either their leg or foot (or both).

It is sometimes confusing when Mexicans say "pie," because they could actually be referring to the ankle or leg, having nothing to do with the foot!

Didn't even notice meaning 2. Silly me :-) I found the Salvadorean meaning first on another site and was concentrating on that, but obviously the Nicaraguan meaning is the relevant one here. Mind you, I can't find any examples of this usage in Nicaraguan websites. Anyway, I'm glad it helped.

Good find by Charles Davis in the Diccionario de americanismos, which indicates that "mancuernos" can mean testicles OR the part of the body that unites the legs with the trunk/torso. Since the text I am working with is referring to a female and describes the body part as being a "tendon," I think I will probably translate it as "groin muscle". I questioned this initially because the person using the term explained it as being "entre el pie y la vagina" but I think he simply may have misspoken and meant "entre la pierna y la vagina." Or he could have intentionally explained it that way to mislead (would make sense but I can't really explain further). Thanks for the help, Charles, using the context I was able to provide.
