Don't worry, my comment was necessairly brief, and all I was seeking to explain was that I wholeheartedly support BDF's suggestion of 'spot' (which in my experience works well in very many cases of 'lieu-dit', and indeed 'lieu' tout court), I would be less wholehearted wbout the suggested adjectives. After all, once the meaning has been made clear, KudoZ is hardly an open-ended thesaurus, and people do need to do their own copy-writing, for such it is. It seems to me that starting off from 'spot' is very much on the right path to finding a satisfactory solution. After all, what makes a 'lieu-dit', apart from the administrative sense that it has been given a name; perhaps 'interesting spotsi is all it really needs here? They must have been 'interesting' enough to someone at some point in order to have been given a name and the huge investment of a little black sign! |
