It's someone writing to his Uncle and seems to be a family dispute about who pays for what. This piece (an email) relates to a real estate project (a property in Portugal). I think I will have to put the most likely interpretation and add a note in for the client to say that it's not clear. So, in short, you think the most likely interpretation would be 'loans from...'? if one is direct speech and the other one a quote / indirect speech from the other person - "other" as in: "not the one talking/writing" but the one to which it ti addressed.

to add further confusion one seems talking of "advances" (=> non-reimbursable) and the other one of "loans (=> reimbursable) - but that might be just part of their dispute.

would imply that it's a dispute with a supplier, or maybe some consultant/lawyer [someone who would be paid in form of "honoraires"]... Can't see where you see any "Bureaucratic forms"?

One way or another. "that I insisted you take out loans" is not the meaning, not possible even in some very twisted context.

that would be service provider talking.

OTOH what the late payer qualifies as "loans" [=> I want that money back] seems to be viewed by other party as "advance (partial) payments" [=> that's my money] for services rendered.

I would see "deux avances" as "two advances/prepayments", but as Tony says the context is very important. Who are the two people - ie a supplier and their client or? thanks

It depends who these two people are?
As I read it, here the 'bank customer' is saying to the 'bank manager' that s/he had not actually asked for a loan from 'the bank manager' — so 'des prêts de votre part' = 'loans from you'.

Hi Julie, thanks for your thoughts. I'm still a bit unsure. I have some more context as follows. A little bit before this section, I have this: Quant aux honoraires, je suis oblige d'exiger des garantis solides car j'estime avoir été induit en erreur. Then later, it talks about the person being in financial difficulties so I'm not sure he could provide any loans - J'ai toutefois, a ta demande et régler des difficultés de trésorerie que tu rencontrais, consenti deux avances, l'une de €10.000.- pour payer tes impôts, et l'autre de €15.000... Thanks!

No, I think that it's the other way around - that the person didn't insist on loans FROM the other person. I say this because the author goes on to mention partial advanced payment for invoices to be issued for work already done and perhaps the other person misunderstood. That's the way I would read it. Otherwise, if the second person was taking out loans, why would they also be paying for bills....unless you have additional context?
