Najczęściej występującymi mutacjami w genie dystrofiny są delecje i wykrywa się je w około
60% przypadków DMD. Obejmują one zazwyczaj jeden lub kilka eksonów, niekiedy jednak
delecja stanowi utratę całego genu dystrofiny, a czasami nawet obejmuje także sąsiednie geny
i wtedy dystrofinopatii towarzyszą inne objawy, między innymi wrodzona hipoplazja
nadnerczy, której towarzyszy niedobór kinazy glicerolu oraz niepełnosprawność
intelektualna. Delecje występują najczęściej w dwóch tzw. gorących miejscach (ang. hot
spots) i obejmują eksony 44-54 (ok. 60% delecji) i eksony 3-16 (ok. 15% delecji).
